Combining traditional structural, cranial and visceral approaches to examine the body osteopathically and learning what to do next.

Modern osteopathy courses have produced practitioners with excellent diagnostic and reasoning skills to screen for pathology and onward referral. However, once a patient has been deemed safe to treat the vocabulary and tools for what to do next have often been abandoned in the name of evidence-based medicine. There has rightly been scrutiny of the osteopathic diagnostic model but this has often led to dropping of diagnostic models from modern undergraduate courses. Lots of technique is taught but frequently there is confusion about when to apply these techniques as there is a lack of confidence in the diagnosis.

This course will attempt to plug the “diagnostic gap” and introduce uncomplicated ways to treat our findings, using both approaches we are already comfortable with and new techniques too. This course represents a professional lifetime of trying to find the simplest and fastest way to examine patients and be effective with our treatment. It draws on the work of Crobier, Greenman, Mitchel, Barral and many others.

The goal will be to give participants a simple, highly practical examination routine to examine all the body systems and inspire with new treatment techniques. Guidance will be given on where to start treating and to be able to monitor if this approach is working. We will cover structural and cranial techniques, and make both of these styles more accessible if they’re not your typical approach. This course is suitable for all levels of experience.

Ultimately it will allow the formulation of an osteopathic diagnosis which will then make the formulation of an osteopathic treatment more simple.

Michael Pye

Michael Pye (DO, PG Cert Ost, PGD WHO, FMIH) graduated from the European School of Osteopathy (ESO) in 1995 and has been in clinical practice ever since, while also teaching extensively - both nationally and internationally. He was a senior clinic tutor and clinical lead and founder of the women’s health clinic at the ESO, the first clinic of its kind at any osteopathic college. Michael also taught for the International Department of the ESO and was the course leader for Fascia and Osteopathy.

Michael has a keen interest in women’s health and has studied at post graduate level to further his skill and experience in this field. He was fortunate to have studied with, and been mentored by, Professor Molinari since 1993. Michael was among the graduates of the first Women’s Health Post Graduate Osteopathy course where he gained a Post Graduate Diploma in Osteopathy and Women’s Health, and was made a Fellow of the Molinari Institute of Health. Michael now teaches and examines for the Molinari Institute of Health, and was a founder faculty member of the Japanese College of Traditional Osteopathy (JTOC) in Kobe, Japan where he taught MET of the spine and peripheral joints and acted as an external examiner.

More recently Michael has also trained to treat animals and runs a thriving equine practice alongside his human practice.
